Our size 10 versus 18 New Look collection is a burgundy dream and our boots pass the tough test
SHOPPING can sometimes be stressful when you’re looking for the perfect purchase to flatter your figure.
You want something that makes your breasts look bigger or smaller, you are insecure about your stomach or you just don’t think the store is suitable for your clothing size.
Me and my work bestie Lynn are fashionistas with very different figures.
I am 33 years old, have a small and large breast, size 18. Meanwhile, Lynn, 44, is a beautiful mother of size 40.
But we both struggle with body issues. We now try to step out of our comfort zone to help our fellow shoppers find the best stores for size-inclusive fashion.
We’ve scoured favorite supermarkets and high streets to find the right outfits for every occasion – and for every occasion.body.
We recently put New Look to the test to see how it fared size-wise and what it had to offer for the AW24.
And it was all about the color of the season.
We spotted a beautiful burgundy chiffon maxi dress on the website for £35.99, and it inspired our entire crop.
With a subtle leopard print, it meets the viral print and is also the color of autumn.
It’s also super comfortable, flattering and versatile.
I had read in reviews that the fit was a little smaller than normal, so I got a size 20, and it was definitely the right decision because it skimmed over all my self-conscious areas.
Lynn, meanwhile, stayed true to size and thought it was perfect.
We continued our burgundy style with a pair of heeled ankle boots for £39.99.
New Look immediately gets brownie points for offering a wide fit, which also passes the big ankle test.
And even though they have a heel, they are still incredibly comfortable and will make any outfit look chicer.
We completed the look with a cropped plum jacket in cozy felt for £36.99, both in a larger size so we can also pair it with jumpers and hoodies.
Then, for some office twinning vibes, we chose a monochrome work outfit.
We have a faux leather midi pencil skirt on offer for €35 and a cream sweater for €18.99.
Lynn confessed that the skirt was a definite wildcard for her as she feared it wouldn’t suit her age. But we were both very happy with the overall look and the quality was great for the price.
It gave off classy leather vibes without veering into sexy secretary territory.
However, I underestimated New Look with the sizing on this one, having taken a size 20. I was afraid I would look like a stuffed sausage if I followed the size, but it was so comfortable and generous that there was no need to go for the size. extra room.
For shoes this time we saw a cheap Ganni dupe.
The black patent heels with buckle details cost just €37.99 and are over €300 cheaper than the designer version.
Our latest purchase was a return to form with burgundy.
And we both agreed that the £18.99 ribbed wide leg trousers were like a cloud.
Christmas fashion tips from an expert
CLEMMIE Fieldsend, fashion editor at Fabulous, has shared her top tips for looking fabulous this Christmas.
AVOID: Christmas sweaters
They are no longer a novelty, they have now become boring again and do not belong at a festive party.
By all means, go all in for Christmas Sweater Day for Save The Children, but never wear it before or after that day.
WEAR: Burgundy
At this time of year you can’t avoid burgundy and it is a luxurious, deep and rich color that is a welcome change from the Christmas red at Christmas.
Opt for silky textures or velvet for extra style points.
AVOID: PJs
The trend of feather-trimmed combination sets has had its day and is so dated.
This year, don’t break out your hair-plucked pair and buy a new set, instead, still go for the satin two-piece, but stay away from the plumes.
WEAR: Sequin dress
Try changing up the sequins a bit by wearing them with a different texture or color, for example a sequin skirt with a tight knit.
But if you really don’t know what to wear, reach for the sequins, it is Christmas after all.
AVOID: Sequin blazer
There’s nothing worse than showing up to a festive gig that looks like the hired entertainment.
Leave the sequin blazer to magicians and strict judges, but always opt for a classic tuxedo style or velvet instead.
WEAR: Bling pants
Last season, embellished jeans with diamond bling were having a moment, and this year they’re going to be just as big a hit.
If you don’t want gemstones pinging everywhere, try metallic PU pants
As smaller girls we had to raise the waistband so they weren’t too long, but the quality and comfort make it more than worth it.
They are also perfect for travel, lounging and coffee dates. The spot price is a bonus.
Overall, the New Look haul gets a well-deserved 10 out of 10.
It has certainly been our reminder of why it is such a giant on the high street.
