Oura Ring 4 leak shows how Oura plans to fight back against Samsung Galaxy Ring
With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Ring, we have a brand new contender for our list of the best smart rings. But the biggest name in the business also has an upgrade of its own in the pipeline, and we’ve just gotten our first glimpse of the Oura Ring 4.
This leak comes from Android Authorityand consists of certification documents needed to get the device on sale. Images of the wearable are included, and it appears that Oura is sticking with its familiar flat and smooth look.
As you can see in our hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy Ring, that ring has a slightly concave shape, but there’s no sign of that here – and there are no visible protrusions anywhere, so it seems like this will once again be a sleek, minimalist wearable of sorts.
We don’t get much more information about the Oura Ring 4, though it does seem like it will come in a variety of sizes and finishes, just like the current model. With certification underway, a launch shouldn’t be far off.
Long awaited upgrade
In our Oura Ring 3 review, we praised its improved sensors, impressive sleep monitoring capabilities, and “smooth and comfortable” feel. It’s possible we’ll see several improvements in terms of sensor capabilities once again.
Rumor has it that the next Oura Ring will support contactless payments. That’s something the Galaxy Ring doesn’t have, so that’s potentially one way this upcoming wearable could outperform Samsung’s offerings.
Given the wealth of new AI tools and features we’ve seen on all sorts of devices lately, we might also be getting some extras in terms of data processing and analytics on the software side. These could be part of the Oura membership, though.
The Oura Ring 3 is still getting new features regularly, and Oura is in no rush to launch a new model: the 3rd-generation smart ring first went on sale in November 2021, so we could be facing a three-year gap before the 4th-generation model hits the market.
