Pacific Highway crash in Charmhaven, NSW: Teenage boy dies
A teenage boy has died after a horrific accident on the Central Coast in New South Wales.
A station wagon was traveling on the Pacific Highway in Charmhaven when it veered off the road and struck a tree around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The driver, a 19-year-old woman, fled the scene but was quickly located and taken to Gosford Hospital under police guard.
A 17-year-old boy, who was a passenger, died at the scene. His identity has not yet been officially established.
“A crime scene has been established and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing,” NSW Police said.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
The Pacific Highway was closed in both directions between Moala Parade and Jetty Avenue and local diversions were put in place.
At 8.20am it remained closed.

“The ongoing police investigation is expected to take some time,” Live Traffic said.
‘Light vehicles will be diverted via Moala Pde, Panorama Ave and Jetty Ave. Heavy vehicles should use the M1. Please allow extra time.’
The crash came just one day after the victims of another horrific crash in the state’s Southern Highlands were identified as friends.
Brooke Sorlie, 21, and Charlie Quinn, 18, were travelling in a car with two men aged 21 and 20 through Tarago, about 40km south of Goulburn, when the vehicle left the road and overturned about 1.10pm on Sunday.
Ms Sorlie, Ms Quinn and the 20-year-old man died at the scene, while the 21-year-old driver escaped with minor injuries.
He was able to climb out of the vehicle unaided and was taken to hospital in Canberra for treatment and mandatory blood tests.
A woman who was among the first on the scene said she and other bystanders desperately tried to save the lives of the other man and woman as they waited for emergency services to arrive.

“They were unconscious. We were giving them CPR but it just wasn’t working. It was horrible,” she told Daily Mail Australia.
‘One girl was still stuck in the car – the driver’s girlfriend. I can still hear his screams.
“He was screaming as he tried to get into the car and get his girlfriend out.”
Special accident investigators are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, including whether speed played a role.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
