Pat Carrigan defends Kevin Walters for brutal spray after Brisbane’s shocking loss to Parramatta, admits reprimanding Broncos players was ‘justified and fair’
Pat Carrigan has defended Kevin Walters for delivering an almighty spray to his Broncos players last week, admitting the terrifying rant was fully deserved.
After a 53-6 capitulation against the Eels at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, Walters let his players loose, negating their stance and lack of effort in defense.
According to reports, the spray left several Broncos players “upset” with Walters for questioning their commitment, but Carrigan had no problem with the reprimand.

“It was fair and honest,” the Broncos propeller said Monday.
“It was justified. Not just as players, but as fans we are a little disappointed with the club’s performance over the past few weeks.
‘He [Walters] is a passionate man. We all want to get there and we follow him every day.’
Broncos legends Gorden Tallis and Steve Renouf were both scathing about the players’ reaction in the wake of Walters’ spray.

Tallis urged the Broncos coach to weed out the players who complained about his tirade, suggesting that their teammates would be unwilling to play with them.
“Whoever those two were whining and they should just write a line through it,” said the former Broncos and Queensland greats on Fox League on Sunday.
“If I found out and I was with that organization, I don’t want to play with that guy.”
Meanwhile, Renouf described the Broncos players as “precious, soft, privileged k***s” on Twitter.

The Broncos suffered a hammering for a second consecutive time, jeopardizing their hopes of the final
Tallis and Renouf played 343 games together for the Broncos, winning a total of seven premierships, and Carrigan accepted that their criticism was well-intentioned.
She [Tallis and Renouf] are the greats of the club. It stings you when they say things like that, but I also know it’s coming from the right place,” he added.
“Stevie and Gordie have been good everywhere and want nothing more than for us to be a successful group.”
Brisbane’s hopes of making it to the final, after attacking each other in the last two games against Melbourne and Parramatta, sent them into the final round in ninth.

The Broncos must beat St. George on Saturday and hope the Raiders break free from the lowest Wests Tigers.
After a dominant win against the Eels on July 21, the Broncos have won just one of their last five games with three of their four defeats at Suncorp Stadium.
Brisbane lost at home to the NRL’s basement dwellers Tigers, racking up a combined 113 points in their last two outings to the Storm and Parramatta.
The Broncos last made it to the final in 2019, when they finished eighth and were hammered 58-0 by Parramatta in the qualifying final.
