Patriarchy is a left-wing concept, but it didn't stop Indira Gandhi from becoming Prime Minister: Nirmala
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday debunked the idea that patriarchy is an obstacle to women’s empowerment, citing the example of Indira Gandhi.
Interacting with students at Jain University in Bengaluru, Sitharaman, in response to a question, said patriarchy as a barrier for women was a concept invented by the Left and asked students not to “get carried away by fanciful jargons”.
If that was indeed the case, how did Indira Gandhi become Prime Minister, she wondered. “The goal is to challenge societal norms in a thoughtful way that leverages both personal power and government support,” Sitharaman said.
