Paving Pro reveals a 35p trick that makes moss ‘disappear’ for good
If your patio is looking a little worse for wear as we head into the colder months, don’t worry.
There’s a cheap and easy way to look as good as new and banish unsightly moss for good.
According to paving expert Rowan Cripps of Infinite Paving, moss “will grow wherever the opportunity presents itself,” so it’s important to stay on top of that.
Usually moss will grow between the tiles, but if you’re not careful, it can quickly take over your entire patio or driveway.
Wet weather provides the perfect conditions for moss to thrive, which can worsen the problem in the fall and winter.
Luckily, the professional has the perfect, cheap and cheerful trick to keep moss at bay and it’s probably already in your cupboards: white vinegar.
“Although white vinegar is relatively popular for killing weeds and lichens, it is just as effective at removing moss as it is at removing weeds,” the spokesperson said. Express.co.uk.
“This is because the vinegar helps break down the unwanted moss, making it much easier to uproot and remove.”
Not only that, but the expert revealed that the trick will keep moss from coming back for good.
Simply add white vinegar to a spray bottle and mix with equal parts water.
Spray over the mossy spots and leave for about an hour to do the hard work for you.
You should then be able to easily scrub away the moss with a soft brush.
A soft-bristled brush is a must, Rowan explained, because a stiff brush can cause damage to your patio.
Other tricks to banish moss
Kate Jones shared a photo of the moss problem on the Gardening UK Facebook group and wrote: “What is the best way to revive this paving?
“We have it at the edge and bottom of our garden and it has been neglected since we moved here, there is a lot of work to do in and outside the garden.”
Kate added: “There’s loads of moss and weeds and a few good sized ant colonies. There is a path along one side of the garden (which faces north) and then a nice stretch at the bottom (which faces west).”
While some thought using a pressure washer would be a good way to remove the moss, others warned against it as it could damage the patio.
Instead, the go-to trick for many garden enthusiasts has been to use washing powder to help the moss leave without having to spend ages scrubbing.
One noted: washing powder. You would be amazed at the transformation.
“You can then sweep new sand into the seams.”
A second agreed that the budget-friendly trick works wonders: “Sounds strange to be honest, but cover it with cheap washing machine powder and brush it around.
