PC shipments in India grow 7.1 percent as HP retains top position: report

HP retained its position at the top of the Indian PC market amid continued growth in shipments in the second quarter of 2024, according to a report. India reportedly registered a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 7.1 percent in Q2 2024, with shipment volumes across all three categories – desktop, notebook and workstation – seeing growth of 5.9 percent, 7.4 percent and 12.4 percent YoY respectively. The report highlighted that increased demand across both online and offline channels resulted in the growth.

According to a report According to market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), India’s PC market recorded shipments of 3.39 million units in the second quarter of the current year. This is 7.1 percent higher than the shipments in the same quarter last year. The report found that the second quarter of 2024 saw an 11.2 percent increase in consumer demand, which required additional units to be shipped.

The demand was reportedly seen across both online and offline channels. The report also states that the e-commerce channel grew by a significant 22.4 percent YoY. The commercial segment recorded a small increase of 3.5 percent YoY, which was largely driven by increased demand in the small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) and large enterprise segments. It saw growth of 12.4 percent and 33.1 percent YoY respectively.

HP maintained its top position in both the commercial and consumer segments, with 33.5 percent and 29.7 percent market share. The company also dominated the notebook category, with 34.4 percent market share. According to IDC, the growth was the result of increased demand for consumer notebooks and some significant business orders.

Lenovo and Dell Technologies consolidated the second and third positions in terms of market share. The former captured 17.5 percent of the market, while the latter managed only 14.8 percent share. Notably, Dell lost 0.5 percent market share compared to Q2 2023. IDC reports that Lenovo performed well in the SMB segment with a 16.5 percent year-on-year growth, while Dell mainly found growth in the consumer segment.
