People are only now realizing the correct way to use hairspray and saying it ‘makes sense’
EVERY woman has applied a hasty amount of hairspray to her locks at some point on the way out the door.
However, people are only now realizing that they have been using the hair product incorrectly and have actually improved their refrigerator.
In a viral videoTikTok user Matt (@mattloveshair) revealed the common mistake people make when styling their hair.
The mistake is even recommended in the directions on most hairspray labels.
Most brands advise users to hold the can at least 12 inches from the hair while moving it in a continuous motion.
However, hair care expert Matt shared how this technique can actually promote frizzy hair.
“If you spray your hairspray straight from the can onto your frizzy hair, they will just stay in place,” he explained.
Instead, he demonstrated how you “would be better off” applying the product to a comb or brush before use.
According to the stylist, this method will help “pat those frizzy hairs into place.”
And if you’re in a pinch without a comb or brush nearby, he suggested using your hand to work the product through your strands.
While the hair product may not have frizz-free properties, it can help keep your loose strands in place.
“Hairspray won’t necessarily take away the frizz, but it will keep it at bay once you put it in place,” Matt told his followers.
TikTok users shared their thoughts on the advice in the comments section.
“Why do so many things seem like common sense…after you say them?” one viewer asked.
“So I’ve been using it wrong my whole life? Thanks, I feel like my life has been a total lie. Thanks, TikTok,” said another follower.
“Where have you been for the past 37 years?! Thanks for all these tips!” a third person commented.
“I could never understand hairspray as a teenager, was it that simple?!” asked another TikTok user.
Three hair mistakes that make you look older
THERE are some hair mistakes you should avoid if you don’t want to make yourself look older than you actually are:
- One-dimensional hair color – it’s a good idea to go to a hairdresser to get your color done. If you use a box paint, you may be left with one block color, so stay away.
- Hair that is too dark around the hairline – “Add softer, lighter shades and tones around the sides of the face to bring lift and life to your eyes; too dark a color will do the opposite and feel very stark and dreary,” says Jack Howard, UK color spokesperson for L’ Oréal, said.
- Holding on to the hair color of your youth – While you may have looked good with jet black hair in your twenties, that may no longer be said now that you’re fifty. The general rule is that your hair color should lighten as you age, just as your skin color does.
“Dude, I learned more from you on TikTok than I did in 30 years of going to stylists,” said one viewer.
“Why did that never register in my head before? Thank you!!!” wrote another follower.
“I’m amazed at how much I’m learning from you! And I’m 70!! Thank you so much,” one TikTok user commented.
Another commenter said the simple hack “makes so much sense” after learning it.
“I learn something new from you every day!” said one impressed follower.
