Perplexity AI now lets you perform complex searches on Android phones

Artificial intelligence (AI) search engine platform Perplexity AI rolled out a new feature called Pro Search last week. The feature is available now on the Android app, and users can access it by simply clicking the Pro button below the text field. According to the AI ​​company, the feature uses multi-step reasoning to find answers to complex questions that can’t be answered by sourcing information from websites. The feature is available to free users with some limitations.

While the company hasn’t made an official announcement about the feature, it’s now appearing in the Perplexity AI app for Android for several users. Gadgets 360 was able to use the feature, and it works similarly to the web client. Pro Search was notably the first issued on July 2nd.

To activate Pro Search, users can look below the text field where a new Pro toggle can be seen. Toggling this on will activate the feature and allow users to continue asking questions that would normally require multiple searches. When searching for the result, Perplexity will display the Pro Search icon and highlight the number of steps it took to get to the result. Below that, users can also view all of the sources that were used to create the answer.

Announcing the feature, the AI ​​company highlighted that Pro Search analyzes search results and takes intelligent actions based on the findings to arrive at the final answer. This process also includes performing follow-up searches that build on previous results. In addition to searches, users can also ask the AI ​​advanced math and programming-related questions.

The main difference between a regular search and Pro Search on Perplexity is that the former provides quick and accurate answers backed by sources, while the latter digs deeper into the question and provides more comprehensive results.

Currently, the Pro Search feature is available to all users. However, free users can only access it for the first five searches every four hours. To access unlimited pro searches, users need to purchase the Perplexity Pro subscription, which costs $20 (approximately Rs. 1,670) per month.
