A petition launched for an annual ‘Queen Elizabeth Day’ holiday in honor of the late monarch on the anniversary of her death has reached more than 100,000 signatures.

The campaign was started by John Harris on Change.org and proposes that September 8, the day she died, be declared Queen Elizabeth II Day to honor her every year.

John’s petition says: ‘Queen Elizabeth II is our longest reigning monarch, and arguably the nations, and the world’s most popular monarch.

In the words of President Macron, ‘to you she was your queen, to us she was THE queen… Britain’s most constant symbol.

‘Great Britain has fewer public holidays than most European countries; France has 11 compared to our 8, Spain has 14.

“I believe we need another public holiday to mark the life of our greatest Sovereign; a Queen Elisabeth Day.

“A day when our nation comes together and celebrates both the life of the Queen and our gratitude for the institution of our Royal Family.”

John had aimed for 25,000 signatures on the petition and currently has more than 100,000 collected.
