PhD researcher from IIT Delhi dies after well collapse near Harappan excavation at Lothal in Gujarat | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A tragic incident took place near Lothal archaeological site in Gujarat on Wednesday morning when a ground cave-in claimed the life of an IIT Delhi student and injured three others during their research work.The deceased, Surabhi Verma (23), the PhD student from IIT Delhi, was conducting research at the ancient Indus Valley Civilization site, about 80 kilometers from Ahmedabad, when the incident took place.Four researchers, two each from IIT Delhi and IIT Gandhinagar, collected soil samples for research near the archaeological remains of the Port city of Harappan of Lothal, according to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Om Prakash Jat, as reported by PTI.“A researcher from IIT Delhi, identified as Surabhi Verma, died on the spot.
