Plumpton High School teacher Tyson Moon is facing charges after being accused of vicious acts with a student
A high school teacher in Sydney’s northwest has been charged with child abuse.
Tyson Moon, a music and drama teacher at Plumpton High School, was charged Nov. 14 with three counts of sexually touching a person over the age of 16 and under the age of 17 who was receiving special care.
The 26-year-old has been banned from teaching while the case is before the courts after the allegations were reported to police on November 1.
In a letter to parents sent on Tuesday, school principal Tim Lloyd said Moon had been assigned to a “non-school work location” by the Department of Education.
“While this matter is before the courts, the school cannot comment on anything related to it,” he said.
“As soon as this matter was brought to its attention, the school followed all related department policies and procedures, including support for students.
‘You can obtain counseling for your child from the school by contacting our head office.’
Moon has worked on the performing arts faculty at Plumpton High School since 2021.

In the school’s 2022 Gifted and Talented Program information booklet, Moon was described as a “mentor” for students interested in the theater industry.
‘Mr. Moon’s professional experience in the theater industry has helped mentor and guide his students to assist in their own success in the performing arts, while in his classroom drama classes he experiences a glimpse of what the professional theater industry is like ,” it said.
Moon also worked for a community theater group for young people in Western Sydney, founded in 2020, involving both primary and secondary school age children. Sydney Morning Herald reports.
There are no costs associated with this group.
NSW Police have confirmed Moon has been granted conditional bail and will appear in Mount Druitt court on December 16.
