Nehru’s contributions to India, both as a key figure in the struggle for independence and as the country’s first leader after independence, were remembered by political leaders across the country.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also paid her respects at Shanti Van in Delhi and described Nehru as the ‘creator of modern India’. In a heartfelt post, she recalled Nehru’s unwavering leadership and his stand against fear-mongering, quoting his famous words: “Don’t be afraid!” Gandhi emphasized Nehru’s commitment to building a nation where the public could live without fear, while always putting the welfare of the people first. She expressed confidence in her own political journey while campaigning for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-elections.
Children’s Day, celebrated every year on November 14 in honor of Nehru, is a national tribute to his lifelong advocacy for the welfare of children. Fondly called ‘Chacha Nehru’, Nehru is remembered for his efforts to promote education, child development and the rights of young citizens. After his death in 1964, the Indian government officially declared his birthday as *Bal Diwas* (Children’s Day), ensuring his legacy lives on in the hearts of the country’s youth.
Born on November 14, 1889 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Nehru played an important role in India’s independence and became the country’s first Prime Minister on August 15, 1947.
