PM Modi honored with Dominica’s highest civilian award | India News – Times of India
President Sylvanie Burton of Dominica granted the “Dominica speedwell” on PM Modi during the India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana, concluding his three-country trip.
“Honoured that Dominica has received the highest national award. I dedicate this to the 140 million people of India,” Prime Minister Modi said in a message on X.
“The award is in recognition of the Prime Minister’s statesmanship and contribution to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic and his commitment to strengthening ties between India and Dominica,” the Ministry of External Affairs wrote in another post on X.
The Prime Minister will also receive the highest honors from Guyana and Barbados, bringing his total number of international awards to 19. Guyana will award Prime Minister Modi his highest national award, ‘The Order of Excellence’, while Barbados will honor him with the prestigious ‘Honorary Order’. of the freedom of Barbados’.
The announcement of this prestigious award came earlier from Dominica.
“In February 2021, Prime Minister Modi provided Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine – a generous gift that enabled Dominica to provide support to its Caribbean neighbors,” Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s office said.
The honor also recognizes India’s outreach in healthcare, education and IT sectors under Modi’s leadership, along with his global initiatives for climate resilience and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Skerrit stated that the award represents Dominica’s appreciation for Modi’s solidarity with their country and the broader region.
Earlier, Nigeria also congratulated the Prime Minister on the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). This made Prime Minister Modi the second foreign dignitary to receive this honor. Queen Elizabeth is the only other foreign dignitary to receive the GCON in 1969.
