PM Modi recalls 'Howdy Modi', 'Namaste Trump' events in conversation with newly elected US President
NEW DELHI: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the heads of government to congratulate US President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday, both leaders recalled their interactions including Hello Modi event in Houston and the Namaste Trump event in Ahmedabad during President Trump’s visit to India.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi in his telephonic conversation with Trump emphasized that his victory reflected the deep confidence of the American people in his leadership and vision.
“PM warmly congratulated him on his re-election as President of the United States of America and on the success of the Republican Party in the Congressional elections,” the statement said.
“PM emphasized that his spectacular and resounding victory reflected the American people’s deep confidence in his leadership and vision. Reflecting on the positive momentum of India-US partnership during President Trump’s first term, the Prime Minister recalled their memorable interactions including the Howdy Modi event in Houston in September 2019 and the Namaste Trump event in Ahmedabad during the visit from President Trump to India in February 2020,” it added.
According to MEA, both leaders reiterated the importance of the comprehensive global strategic partnership between India and the US for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

According to ANI sources, Trump responded warmly to Prime Minister Modi’s move, calling India a ‘magnificent country’ and Prime Minister Narendra Modi a ‘magnificent man’. Trump also said Modi was one of the first world leaders he spoke to after securing his victory. Expressing his admiration for the Prime Minister, he said, “The whole world loves Prime Minister Modi.” and also highlighted India as a valued ally.
Trump, who regained the presidency at the age of 78 by surpassing the necessary 270 Electoral College votes, addressed his supporters with gratitude. He acknowledged the support of the American public in the Florida speech, calling it “an extraordinary honor,” and expressed optimism about the potential for national unity.
“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th and 45th president,” Trump said, in what he described as a period that could serve to advance reconciliation in the country.
