Priyanka on Saturday addressed campaign rallies in Shirdi and Kolhapur for the Maharashtra Assembly elections as she took on the Prime Minister and the BJP. She said that Maharashtra was being insulted and the principles of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj were being violated every day.
“PM comes on stage and mentions Balasaheb Thackeray… but he has stabbed his son in the back. (Bal Thackerayji ki baat karte hai, aur unhi ke bete ke peeth mein chura ghopa),” she said at a meeting at the Gandhi Maidan in Kolhapur. . Earlier, Priyanka said in Shirdi that their (Congress) political ideology was different from that of late Balasaheb in the past. “But Balasaheb, Rahul or any Congress politician would not tolerate the way BJP and Modi have insulted Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” she said while referring to the statue collapse in Sindhudurg, the removal of the statue of the Maratha king from parliament and the non-completion of the warrior king statue for which Modi had laid the foundation stone seven years ago in the Arabian Sea near Mumbai.
Priyanka was referring to Prime Minister Modi’s recent speech at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park in which he attacked her brother Rahul Gandhi. She challenged Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to conduct a caste census and do away with the 50% cap on reservations. “Both are spreading lies that Rahul is against reservations. In the Mumbai speech, he (Modi) said that Rahul Gandhi was against reservations. Rahul Gandhi walked 4,000 km and led Nyay Yatra from Manipur to Mumbai. Everywhere he raised the issue of caste-based census and removal of 50% cap on reservations. They lie because they are afraid…,” she added.
She then attacked the BJP, saying it has “made a mockery of the Indian Constitution by stealing the elected government” of Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra.
“The country’s constitution gives the electorate the power to choose a government of their choice by exercising their right to vote. In Maharashtra, voters elected the MVA in 2019 to form a government. But the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party colleagues used money and central power. agencies to steal the publicly elected government. Nowhere is it written that a government can be formed in such a dishonest manner,” Priyanka said.
She asked out loud how the BJP could use such a huge amount of money to topple the MVA government. “Did the BJP use the money meant for development projects in Maharashtra to get rid of the MVA government?” she asked.
Priyanka accused Modi of taking away industrial investments from Maharashtra and said former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi were not partial when it came to implementing major projects during their tenure. She wondered why Mahayuti had not implemented the Ladki Bahin Yojana soon after it was formed two and a half years ago. She said Modi disrespected Maharashtra as the Prime Minister left the country in the middle of an important election. Priyanka also said that PM Modi’s recent speeches had disappointed her as she could not see any truth in them. “It feels like they’re saying one thing and doing another,” she said.
