PM Modi to join world leaders at Quad Summit in US; India could host next year | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join the world leaders at the coming Quad top in the US later this month. The meeting is expected to take place in US President Joe Biden’s hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21. The summit will address pressing global issues, including the situation in Ukraine.
The summit will feature Prime Minister Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albaneseand the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida The leaders will attend the UN Summit on the Future in New York on September 22-23, where Prime Minister Modi will address the Indian community and engage with several world leaders.
The upcoming Quad summit was to be held in India, but due to tight schedules, a more suitable venue was chosen for the members. India is expected to host the summit next year.
The Quad summit is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation among member states in the field of Indo-Pacific region and addressing major global challenges. In July, Quad foreign ministers met in Tokyo to advance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and reaffirm their commitment to a free and open region, free from coercion. They also announced plans to expand the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) program to the Indian Ocean, with the aim of improving monitoring of strategic waters.
According to the UN, the Summit of the Future will bring together leaders from different countries to build a new international consensus on creating a “better present and securing the future”.
