Poco F5 confirmed to get Snapdragon SoC; coming soon to India

Poco F5 is expected to launch soon in India. The phone was recently spotted on multiple certification sites, hinting at its imminent launch. The Poco F5, which is expected to be the successor to the Poco F4 that was launched in India in June 2022, is expected to debut as a rebranded Redmi Note 12 Turbo. The Redmi phone was launched in China earlier this year in March and was also available in a special Harry Potter edition. While Poco is yet to give a launch date for the phone, it has now been confirmed that the Poco F5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC.

Snapdragon (@Snapdragon_IN) confirmed in a tweet that its Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC will make its Indian debut via the upcoming Poco F5. This tweet was later quoted by Himanshu Tandon (@Himanshu_POCO), head of Poco India, who claimed that the Poco F5 will be the “most powerful” Poco smartphone ever.

Built using 4nm TSMC technology, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 claims to improve the phone’s overall performance by 50 percent, compared to the older Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. The new chipset is also said to improve battery efficiency by 13 percent, boost AI performance by two times, and bring Wi-Fi 6 support.

The Poco F5 smartphone was recently spotted on Geekbench with model number 23049PCD8I. The handset is also expected to arrive in at least two storage variants — 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB.

It is speculated to be a rebranded Redmi Note 12 Turbo, which is expected to share similar features. The Poco F5, therefore, could feature a 6.67-inch full-HD+ (2,400 x 1,080) AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and 1,000 nits peak brightness.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC on board the Poco F5 is expected to be paired with an Adreno GPU, up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage. The handset is likely to run MIUI 14 based on Android 13 out of the box.

For optics, the phone may pack a triple camera unit that may include a 64-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 2-megapixel macro lens. A 16-megapixel front-facing camera may be housed in a centered punch-hole cutout at the top of the display.

The Poco F5 could also feature a 5,000mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging and is expected to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor for security.
