Police launch rescue operation after body found in Ellalong mine shaft
The body of a man has been found in a disused mine shaft following reports of an incident at the workplace.
Authorities were called to the mine shaft on Dry Creek Road in Ellalong, near Cessnock in the New South Wales Hunter Valley, at around 12.45pm on Tuesday.
On site, police were informed that a man had fallen into the dismantled mine shaft.

Hunter Valley Police, NSW Fire and Rescue and ambulance crews are still at the scene.
Several emergency vehicles, a mine rescue vehicle and more than a dozen rescuers arrived on Dry Creek Road.
“The operation is expected to take some time,” a police statement said.
