Eating a popular fruit can help to stimulate men’s sex life according to new research.
The study, published in the magazine current research in Food Science, suggests that consuming watermelon can help to reverse and improve erectile dysfunction fertility.
According to scientists, this is because the refreshing snack is full of antioxidants.
This is probably as welcome news for middle -aged men, more than half of whom are said to experience erectile dysfunction – although it does not last long.
Study author Haitham al-Madhagi, from Thamar University in Dhamār, stated that the fruit works in the same way as Viagra.
In other words, watermelon relaxes blood vessels by stimulating the production of nitrogen oxide.
According to the conclusion of the study: ‘Watermelon has played an important nutritional and medicinal role in the history of humanity.
‘However, the mechanism for its therapeutic actions on male reproduction remains unknown.

“The antioxidant properties of watermelon have been shown to improve sperm quality, male sexual dysfunction and improve the testicle function.”
It comes afterwards Scientists suggested that vitamin D deficiency can feed erectile dysfunction And even make libido boosting drugs less effective.
Spanish researchers discovered that those with diagnosed vitamin D deficiencies had reduced the function in their corpora cavernosa – the spongy tissue in the penis that is crucial for maintaining erections.
Writing in the medical magazine The British Journal of Pharmacology, the researchers suggested that administration of vitamin D to these patients could be an effective treatment for the painful condition.
Studies suggest that about one in 10 white people in the UK have a shortage of vitamin D, along with a third of those with black skin and half of the people of Asian descent.
The nutrient, which helps bones to absorb vital calcium, is created by the body that interacts the skin with sunlight.

Those who live in the UK are thought that they do not produce enough in the winter months, although it is possible to get the necessary dose of foods such as salmon, mackerel and eggs.
The new research, by specialists from the Complutense University of Madrid, included taking samples from Corpora Cavernosa tissue of 12 human donors with vitamin D deficiency.
The scientists then encouraged the tissue with the help of an electric probe to test the function of the nerves.
Researchers discovered that donors with the lowest blood levels of vitamin D had the weakest reactions to electrical stimulation.
The study also showed that the deficient men had a lower than average levels of a protein called SLPI in their blood, which can help to repair tissue damage in the intimate area.
In a separate experiment, the same researchers fed a diet free of vitamin D, and discovered that these animals responded less to the Viagra erectile dysfunction compared to rats that are not on the diet.

“Our results suggest that vitamin D deficiency can contribute to the lack of response to this first-line treatment of erectile dysfunction,” said Dr. Miguel Olivencia, a researcher at Complutense University and co-author of the study.
“The findings increase the possibility that recovering vitamin D in patients with vitamin D deficiency and erectile dysfunction would improve sexual performance.”
Erectding dysfunction is medically defined as the inability to reach or retain the erection long enough for satisfactory sexual intercourse.
It is an increasingly common condition, an estimated half of all men older than 40 years.
Common triggers are high blood pressure, diabetes, stress, nerve damage and too much alcohol.
Lifestyle changes – including starting a healthy diet – can sometimes help with erectile dysfunction, experts say.
Risk factors for vitamin D deficiency – defined as levels under 25 nanogram per millimeter of blood – include overweight, suffering from certain inflammatory disorders such as diabetes, and not spending enough time outside.
Those with dark skin are also much more vulnerable because their skin is less able to synthesize the vitamin.
Guidelines for the government recommend taking vitamin D supplements daily in the fall and winter.
However, taking too much vitamin D for a longer period can be dangerous, researchers say. Excess vitamin D can cause too much calcium to build up in the body, weakens the bones and damages the kidneys and the heart, warn NHS doctors.
