“I enjoyed it every summer as a child boxing – six weeks of vacation and I would be in the boxing school.

“So I really enjoyed it, I enjoy looking at it and it’s great to see Fab doing his thing as part of the Ipswich family – and hopefully he will win!”

More than 20,000 are expected to be on Portman Road at the weekend and Wardley added: “The support of the club as a whole is something that is difficult to put into words.

“It is not only the strange player here or there, or the strange staff member, everyone in the club has been so supportive and invested in me, and wanted this to come true in the course of the years before.

“From the players to everyone who is near the club and Mark (Ashton) himself, who has been a huge lawyer and massive push to pull this out … In the end this does not come together without being enthusiastic about it and he really wants it to continue.

“So I could no longer be grateful to him and the club for their support, their support – and ultimately just, on the core of it, who took care of one of them.

“And I think that’s the strong ethos of this club. We support and go behind ours.”
