NEW DELHI: Leaders and workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by the Opposition Leader of the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikariheld a protest march to the High Commission of Bangladesh in Calcutta on Wednesday. The demonstration was organized in response to the recent arrest of ISKCON Priest from Bangladesh Chinmoy Krishna Das by the Dhaka Police.
Holding banners and chanting slogans, the demonstrators demanded the priest’s immediate release.
Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, prominent spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote was arrested at Dhaka airport on Monday as she prepared to board a flight to Chattogram. Police, led by spokesman Talebur Rahman, confirmed the arrest but refrained from releasing specific charges. Das is reportedly facing sedition charges stemming from allegations of disrespecting the Bangladesh flag at an October rally in Chattogram involving him and 18 others. Known for his leadership in protests against anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh, Das was taken to a police station after his arrest.

ISKCON leaders demand justice

Several ISKCON leaders have condemned the arrest and demanded justice for the arrested Hindu priest.
ISKCON Kolkata vice-president Radharaman Das condemned the arrest and said: “…It is sad when fingers are pointed at an organization without any evidence (in Bangladesh).”
ISKCON Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance Secretary General Dr Mrityunjay Kumar Roy also opposed the arrest. “We strongly oppose this. What has ISKCON done?…ISKCON is a peaceful organization that talks about Shri Krishna and works for the welfare of the poor,” he said.
