In 2021-2022, India achieved a record foreign direct investment (FDI) of USD 85 billion… India is responsible for 50% of digital payment transactions globally,” Shah said, while also underlining that unlike the years before 2014 when scams of over Rs 12 lakh crore were reported , “even our opponents have not been able to accuse us of corruption in the ten years that Modi has ruled.”
The Home Minister started his speech with a glowing tribute to industrialist Ratan Tata, who passed away on Wednesday evening. Shah said Ratan Tata took charge of the Tata Group at a time when the group needed several changes and patiently transformed all his group’s operations and its work ethic. “Tata Group is a north star in India’s industrial landscape. Ratan Tata led his industrial group to a prominent position in the country and globally while adhering to integrity and following all rules and regulations,” he said. Shah also mentioned how Tata has helped build a better society through his Trust.
Speaking about the policy initiatives of the Modi government, Shah said that due to the principle of ‘minimum government, maximum governance’, 2,000 outdated colonial laws have been abolished and 39,000 compliances have been abolished in various sectors. Referring to the security environment, Shah said that unlike the difficult times during the previous government, terrorism in Kashmir, left-wing extremism and insurgency in the Northeast have been “buried 200 meters deep in the ground”.
He mentioned that India had risen from 142nd to 63rd in the Ease of Doing Business rankings, and that following the past fragile state of the banking system, he had witnessed public sector banks closing in 2023-2024 earned a profit of Rs 1.40 lakh crore. “New policies have been introduced in every sector, which are moving the country forward,” he stated.
Shah said that initiatives like GST, Digital India, Bharatmala, Sagarmala, Prime Minister Gati Shakti and Startup India, apart from introducing a new education policy, which aims to globalize education while integrating Indian heritage, will benefit the country in all directions have been advanced.
Referring to the various welfare programs launched for the marginalized sections of the population in the last decade, Shah said the Modi government has provided free foodgrains to 80 million people, besides ensuring free housing, toilets, free electricity connections and piped water to millions of Indians. . “Today, with 130 crore people involved in the country’s development process, our growth rate has skyrocketed,” he stated.
Shah concluded by saying that Indian industries now need to work on changing both their size and scale. Stressing the need for companies to go global, he said that to establish India’s dominance globally, “our chambers and industries must take decisive steps”.
The Home Minister said that in the next 25 years, India will become a global leader in all sectors such as manufacturing, semiconductor industry, electric vehicles and digital economy, adding that the Modi government has been working sincerely in this direction.
