Pro shares ‘trashy’ Christmas tree mistake – people feel ‘attacked’, but there’s a solution
A DESIGN expert has sparked a heated debate after exposing a common mistake when decorating a Christmas tree. So, are you guilty of that?
With the big day just around the corner, many Christmas superfans have been busy decorating their homes and putting up their festive trees.
But if you’ve yet to do the latter, you might want to listen up, because one designer has spilled the beans on an ornament that can go from stylish to ‘trashy’ because of a common mistake.
We go to TikTok, the professional, who goes by the name Dylan (@designsbydylanp) shared a simple tip that will give your Christmas tree an instant boost.
”If you hang up your jewelry and it has long cords on it, in my opinion there is nothing as messy as that long cord [hanging from the branch].”
Instead, the whiz advised placing the bauble (or other festive decorations) over the branch and wrapping it around the tree until ‘it fits snugly’.
“This way the string won’t be visible,” Dylan said, explaining that it looks better and neater.
“You can also go deep into the tree or to the very tip of the branch,” said the guru.
But while the pro thought this was “the right way” to place the ornaments, people on social media weren’t so sure — and the now viral video led to a heated debate.
Thousands of viewers flocked to the comments to share their thoughts and it was a mixed bag of reactions.
One said: ”The way I felt personally attacked when you said ‘Nothing could be messier’.
”I also love the look of a floating ornament, but this tip is great! I’m going to try.”
Someone else agreed, pointing out a potential problem that Dylan might not have thought of.
“All I can think of is the nightmare it will be if you don’t decorate the tree.”
A third chimed in: “I thought long strings give an icicle effect.”
“No, just like the low hangers, and most of the stitches consist of glitter or pretty ribbons,” a fourth wouldn’t rush to change the way they decorate their tree.
How do you care for your real Christmas tree?
HERE’S what you need to know when buying a real Christmas tree:
First things first: buy a jar (if it isn’t already in).
You should treat your tree like a houseplant and give it water and attention.
Make sure the container has good drainage. It’s a good idea to put something underneath to catch the excess water.
Check the soil every day to make sure it is not drying out.
If it feels dry, give it some water. If it still feels damp, leave it alone as too much water can also kill a tree.
Also check that the LED bulbs of your tree lights are not too hot, as this can burn them, and keep your tree away from radiators.
Once Christmas is over, try planting it in the garden so you can dig it up and use it again next year.
However, it is a good idea to remove it from the pot when you replant it, as large trees do not survive well in pots as their roots need room to grow.
But among the 1.5 million viewers, there were also plenty who thanked the expert for posting the clip, especially with Christmas just weeks away
”Why didn’t I ever think of that? You’re a genius!’ one exclaimed.
”Law, have mercy… in all my years it never occurred to me to do this!!! Thank you!!!” someone else wrote.
”This has been going well for years and I think it looks so much better; sometimes people let the decorations touch the branch underneath the branch it’s hanging on and it just doesn’t look as nice,” a fellow Christmas fanatic agreed with Dylan.
