The answers to today’s Quordle question, game #921, are…

It’s been a long time since I haven’t solved a Quordle puzzle. Unlike Wordle, I don’t keep notes, but it’s definitely months rather than weeks or days, and it can be a year or more. But today I lost my streak, and rightly so.

I say “rightly,” but this is undeniably a tough one because of the presence of RETRY and the repeated R’s, to a certain extent, but more importantly the addition of TIGHT. This is one of the worst types of words in Wordle/Quordle, because of the sheer volume of possible solutions. In fact, -IGHT has 10: WIGHT, RIGHT, TIGHT, LIGHT, FIGHT, SIGHT, MIGHT, NIGHT, BIGHT, and EIGHT. And my mistake – a big one – was forgetting the repeated-letter option for TIGHT.

Up until then, things had been going so well, with HONEY, SPOUT and RETRY all solved with minimal fuss. I thought the final answer might be -IGHT, so I guessed MIGHT, and while it was wrong, it confirmed my fears. And I simply didn’t have enough guesses left to choose between them all. What I should have done was use a different word than MIGHT, which would have given me time to narrow down the options – but I was lazy and paid the price.
