Rahul Gandhi’s statement that he is not against reservations misleading: Mayawati | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on Wednesday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of making misleading statements on reservation policy. She alleged that Gandhi’s party failed to implement the Account on SC/ST reservation in promotions during his 10-year tenure at the Centre.
The former CM also said that the Congress party only deals with the issues of SC, ST and OBC communities when it is not in power, but it acts against their interests when it is in power.
“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s clarification that he is not against reservations is clearly a misleading and false statement. During the 10 years of his active participation in the government before the BJP came to power at the Centre, he, along with the SP (Samajwadi Party), did not get the bill for SC/ST reservation in promotions passed,” Mayawati posted in Hindi on X.
She further said that Congress’s claims that the reservation limit would be increased beyond 50% are untrue.
“Their claim of increasing the reservation limit in the country from 50% is also a hoax. If their intentions were clear, this work would have been done during the previous Congress governments,” she added.
Mayawati noted that Congress was not implementing OBC or SC/ST reservations effectively. She also warned people about the alleged conspiracy behind these actions.
“This clearly shows that when Congress is not in power, it talks big about the welfare and interests of these neglected SC/ST/OBC communities for their votes, but when it is in power, it continuously works against their interests. People should be careful about this conspiracy,” she added.
The BSP is neither part of the BJP-led NDA nor of the opposition bloc INDIA, which also includes the Congress Party and the SP.
