NEW DELHI: Former Union minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday hit out at the Congress, saying leader Rahul Gandhi should change mentors as he is not aware of the facts, while criticizing the opposition party over the emergency . Participating in a debate in the Lok Sabha on 75 years after the adoption of the Constitution, Prasad said the framers of the Constitution knew that Indian heritage is secular in nature as mentioned in the “Rigveda”.
He said the original constitution had images of Lord Ram, Lord Hanuman and Mughal Emperor Akbar, but not Babar and Aurangzeb.
He said that in a hypothetical situation, if the Constitution had been drafted today, the opposition would have protested against the insertion of such images in it.
Attacking Congress over the imposition of a state of emergency in the country, the former justice minister said millions of people were sent to prison and opposition leaders were targeted.
He said the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) arrived here after facing lathis (sticks) and bullets during the Emergency, unlike those representing a family.
Prasad also slammed the Congress for failing to recognize the contribution of leaders Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He alleged that none of the Congress leaders mentioned their names in their speeches.
