Rangers 3 Dundee United 1: If this was farewell, then at least Barry Ferguson got goodbye to Ibrox with another rare home win

On what was a night of farewell at Ibrox, Rangers Increased their sleep from the end of the season to give Barry Ferguson the farewell gift of three points and a victory over Dundee United.

This will certainly be the last time that Ferguson takes the lead over Rangers for the club’s own supporters before a new manager is appointed in the summer as soon as the acquisition is completed.

Despite the fact that he is probably not offered in the long term, Ferguson can bend on the back of successive home victories after the 4-0 of Aberdeen last weekend.

What to do with Cyriel Dessers will be one of the most important questions that the new manager and owners are confronted as soon as they take the lead.

Much malignant in his two seasons in Glasgow, Dessers scored twice last night and now has 50 goals for Rangers.

Ferguson chose to remember Jack Butland in goal. After a continuous season, the English keeper was dropped after the 2-0 home defeat against Hibs a month ago.

Hamza Igamane was also brought in to start on the back of his impressive representation of the bank against Aberdeen last Sunday, where he scored the best goal of the game in a 4-0 routine.

In the meantime, United arrived in Glasgow and tried to bounce back from a 2-0 loss house defeat against St Mirren at the weekend, a third consecutive defeat that seriously dented their chances in third place.

Dave Richards came in this season to make his first start of the competition in the goal, while Baas Jim Goodwin made a total of four changes to the United Team.

As was the case against Aberdeen a few days earlier, the number of empty seats around Ibrox was really striking when the kick -off approached.

It had a strong vibes from the Scotland National Team around 2019, when barely 20,000 fans showed up in Hampden for matches against Kazakhstan and San Marino.

Mind you, nobody would blame Rangers -fans for losing interest and thus being disillusioned about what they have seen this season.

The game started when the sun dived over the top of the Broomloan Standard, with rangers who struck the ball with a decent pace in the early stages.

Igamane flashed a header of the target of a James Tavernier cross -cross for 14 minutes, but it was united who took the lead shortly afterwards.

Butland had spread well to make a good first save from Sam Dalby, but Rangers were punished from the resulting corner.

After Ryan struck Strain the ball, Sam Cleall-Harding stood up above everyone to throw a powerful header in the upper corner.

It was miserable against Rangers against a set piece, with the young United Center-Back Cleall-Harding essentially uninterrupted in the middle of the box.

But United’s lead would not last long, because Rangers restored parity thanks to Dessers who scored his fourth goal in so many competitions.

Jefte waved in an inviting cross from the left and Desessers stood up to plant a header past Richards for his 27th goal of the campaign.

It was reasonable even for the rest of the first half, with Mohamed Diomande flashing a shot just wide of the target in the moments before the break.

Diomande was probably the brightest spark in the midfield of Rangers and went close again in the early stages of the second half after another run of driving.

United bore a decent enough threat to the kitchen sink, but they had trouble finding a way to disturb Butland.

As the second half progressed, Rangers looked in the last third part of ideas and creativity, where Ferguson looked at his bank.

But because Danilo and Oscar Cortes warmed up on the touchline, it has long been clear in recent weeks that Ferguson simply does not assess or believe in it.

Tom Lawrence and Nedim Bajrami were two other options, but neither can claim to have enjoyed a particularly fantastic season.

Dessers screamed for a penalty when he confused with Declan Gallagher, just like Diomande when he was felled by Vicko Sevelj for 73 minutes.

Referee Calum Scott initially swung both professions away, to be referred to the VAR monitor for the error on Diomande.

After awarding the Spot-Kick, Dessers stepped up and sent Richards the wrong way to note his 50th goal for Rangers since he came to the club two years ago.

Only two minutes later Rangers sealed the victory when Nico Raskin broke out of midfield and scored the best goal of the game.

Cerny Slim delayed his pass from the left and found Raskin inside on the Underklap, the Belgian midfielder rdering the ball high in the net past Richards for 3-1 to pack it all.

United now enter the last day of the season, knowing that they have to beat Aberdeen to secure European football.
