Meet the ‘tallest kid in the WORLD’: 10-year-old with rare growth condition that caused him to shoot up to 6FT 3IN opens up about the brutal downsides of his impressive height

A 10-year-old boy who stands a whopping 6 feet tall thanks to a rare condition has exposed some of the harsh realities that come with being the ‘world’s tallest child’ – from ‘judgmental’ parents to constant ‘staring’ from strangers.

Jayson suffers from something known as gigantism, a “condition in which there is a small growth on his pituitary gland that allows for a constant release of growth hormone.”

When he was born, he weighed more than 10 pounds and was 2 feet long — more than six inches longer than the average male baby.

At the age of seven he was already over five feet tall, and now, at the age of ten, at six feet tall he towers over most adult men.

While Jayson’s immense height comes with some advantages, such as an edge in football, it has also led to him facing cruel assumptions from the mothers and fathers of other children his age.

He and his mother, Mandy, recently spoke about the hardships they have faced due to his condition at Truly.

Mandy explained in the publication that “other parents” often “judge” her for “letting him get to this size” because they “don’t know he has a condition that causes this.”

She added that they also often have to deal with strangers “staring” at him, especially when they go to school and he is around other children his age.

Yet Jayson – who was labeled ‘the tallest child in the world’ by the Guinness World Records – is not ashamed of his enormous size and has learned to embrace it, despite the looks he gets in public.

“I love it, I’m proud that I’m the tallest kid in the world,” he told the outlet.

His mother added: ‘He is very confident in his height and girth and he loves the attention he gets for it.’

Sadly, Mandy admitted that Jayson’s health is “deteriorating over time” and that his weight — he weighs “about 300 pounds” and eats “more than the average adult” — is an “ongoing problem for them.”

“We try not to overfeed him,” she said. ‘It just accentuates his weight, which is an ongoing problem for us.

“His health has certainly deteriorated over time. [With] gigantism, you’re not just growing on the outside, you’re also growing on the inside, so all your organs will get bigger: the liver, the heart.’

She explained that most people with gigantism only live to be 40 years old because their “heart gets too big,” but that Jayson will hopefully go under the knife in the next few years to stop him growing any further.

‘The procedure [will see doctors] go to his pituitary gland and remove the growth and that will stop all growth,” she explained.

‘We are considering doing the operation when he is 13 or 14 years old. But he is very resistant to having that done.’

Jayson said he was “afraid” of being “cut open,” but added that he knows “he might have to have it.”

Another problem Jayson faces is that he often struggles to find shoes that fit him as he wears a ‘men’s size 14 triple wide’.

‘In gigantism, the excessive amount of growth hormone (GH) accelerates the growth of muscles, bones and connective tissue,’ Cleveland Clinic Previously reported.

Friends of Jayson described him as a “gentle giant,” and his mother added, “I’m very proud of him and his disagreements and the issues he’s faced in his 10 years of life.”

‘This leads to abnormally increased length and various changes in the soft tissue. If left untreated or unattended, some people with gigantism have grown more than 8 feet tall.”

Symptoms include delayed puberty, headaches, joint pain, sleep problems and muscle weakness. It is usually caused by a genetic mutation.

Friends of Jayson described him as a “gentle giant,” while one of his teammate’s fathers told Truly, “He seems like a really good kid.”

‘He seems very modest and I don’t think he even really thinks about the fact that he is so much bigger than everyone else. He’s just a normal kid in a different body.”

“I’m very proud of him and his differences and the problems he’s faced in his 10 years of life,” his mother added.
