‘Really dirty and sad,’ says homeowner as they share roommate’s room

Having a roommate can be fun, but it also allows you to discover what someone is really like behind closed doors and get to know a new side of them.

One woman was shocked when her roommate constantly made her room look ‘dirty’ and it spread to the rest of the house.

She took photos of the room, showing it was littered with trash, including take-out cups and pizza boxes.

Meanwhile, she was also surprised that he was sleeping on a bed without sheets.

The woman said she tolerated the behavior very well for months, but eventually had enough.

She said: “For 7 months I gave him a welcoming, safe home to work on himself.

“I barely knew him and I fed him, cleaned up his and his cat’s messes, bought him presents and decorated for his birthday, gave him the essentials I saw he was missing in the bathroom, and so on and so forth.

“Do you know what he did in return? Nothing.

“He trashed my house and refused to sign a contract with me. He treated me like his free live-in maid.”

She said she asked him to clean up his things, but he did so “while having a tantrum, slamming doors and playing loud music.”

When she reached her limit, she finally decided to take action.

She wrote on Reddit: “My roommate got kicked out!

“He didn’t want to share pictures of his room until he was out, and now he’s finally out!

“This was his room. You can imagine how he treated the rest of the house.

“Very dirty, and very sad.”

She added: “If you live with roommates, there is no excuse for this, no matter how bad the issues you are dealing with.”

Luckily, the male roommate, who worked in a pizzeria, had cleaned the room when he left.

However, the woman is still ‘working on removing the stench and stains from the carpet.’

She added: “Surprisingly, I haven’t had any pest problems.”

What do you do with a lazy roommate who piles up the bills and doesn’t do any chores?

Instead of simply expressing your concerns during the conversation, you can also ask if you can make a home visit.

Explain that it would be fair to redistribute the tasks, but that you also want to do your part.

Ask your energy supplier for a smart meter so they can see how much the bill increases when they are at home.

People were quick to comment on the messy room and give their opinions.

Many said they had trouble finding the bed under all the trash. One person said, “Is there a bed?”

One of them said: “This photo stinks terribly.”

Another added: “I hope they get the help they so desperately need.”

A third commented: “Thinking about it again, maybe my room isn’t as bad as I thought.”

Another wrote: “Ohhhh myyyy gaawddd.”
