Report: GoPro Max 2 could fix current model’s biggest problem
A new image of what could be GoPro’s anticipated Max 2 has surfaced online. Industrially Delicious Quadro News posted a rather cryptic photo of the action camera with the company logo on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter).
To be honest, it doesn’t reveal much and there are no details on specs or potential features, although a lot of information can be gleaned from this one photo.
There are a couple of reasons why people online think this is the GoPro Max 2. First, the lens housing is round. If you look through the company’s current lineup, you’ll see that they all have rectangular housings, except the GoPro Max. It’s the outlier with a round bezel.
The second reason is the small display under the lens – at least it looks like a display. It’s in the same place as the GoPro Max’s screen.
It’s also worth noting that the speaker next to the camera has disappeared, leaving the lens in the center, taking up more space. The GoPro Max 2 may have a larger lens to absorb more light, which would in turn make the device better at low-light video than its predecessor.
Cool design
But the most noticeable change by far is the prominent fins that run across the device. There’s a good chance that these fins are the brand’s “upgraded cooling solution,” according to NotebookCheckThe GoPro Max has an overheating problem that is quite well documented
You can find posts on the official forums of people complaining about their device overheating. Someone reported that their device shut off after 30 minutes. Apparently overheating can occur even when the outside temperature is a chilly 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius).
Fins are an effective way to maintain cooler temperatures, as their wide surface area allows for better heat dissipation. If you were to open up your computer and look at the heatsink, you would see that separate metal panels are working together to keep the machine cool. The same principle applies here.
As with any leak, take this information with a grain of salt. Things could change if GoPro opts for a different cooling method. We know the camera will eventually launch, as the launch announced the model back in September 2023 at X.
