A ‘ruthless, unstoppable’ Aidan O’Brien Horse is retired after he has flopped completely on both runs under the Ballydoyle boss.
Storm boy was called a ‘freak’ by his handler In the structure of his Irish debut.
But the arrival of Mega-Money from Australia suffered a disaster in the Group 2 Greenland Stakes last month and finished last.
Storm Boy was then withdrawn for the Platinum Jubilee Stakes from last Saturday about six Furlongs at Royal Ascot and was one of the horses bookmakers fear the most.
But he finished a gloomy tenth of 15 under Ryan Moore – which means that he only defeated four horses in two points for O’Brien.
Loads were expected from the five -fold winner sent to Ballydoyle after the back of group 3 and group 2 wins in Australia and £ 1.9 million income.
But now he is being sent back to stand under the stud for a fee of £ 7,890, with his racing career forever.
Tom Magnier from Coolmore Australia said: “We are delighted to welcome Storm Boy back in Coolmore Australia for the 2025 season.
“His early versions on the track really had to be seen to believe.
“He was breathtaking, just like his father justified, he broke the hearts of his opponents!
“He won five of his first seven starts in a really dominant way and had bad luck not to include a gold slipper in that count.
“We took Storm Boy to Europe with the plan to win the QE II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.
“But unfortunately we were unable to give him the ideal preparation.
“We thought we were to return where we had to be with him, but he turned out to be pretty lame since he went to Ballydoyle on Saturday.”
The news comes on the back of a few days before O’Brien.
He confirmed yesterday that Tattersalls Gold Cup winner Los Angeles will miss all the big summer races.
He chased a furious pace in what came down on a Royal Ascot ‘Balls Up’ in the use of the Prince of Wales – and will now have some free time Prior to his autumn goal.
O’Brien had five winners at Royal Ascot, but did not succeed in landing in a group 1.
