Revanth Reddy slams BRS claim of making sacrifices during Telangana unrest | India News – Times of India
HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday took a swipe at the BRS leadership, saying some of them have assets worth thousands of crores even though they claimed to have made sacrifices during the statehood movement. Speaking at the inauguration of the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) here, which was attended by weavers, he lauded the sacrifices of the former minister Konda Laxman Bapuji who had resigned from his post in support of the state of Telangana.
Bapuji belonged to the weaver community.
Bapuji had resigned as MLA and minister in 1969 and vowed not to accept any post until Telangana state was a reality, Reddy said.
Indirectly referring to BRS leaders who resigned from their posts (as MLAs and others) during the Telangana agitation which led to by-elections on several occasions, he said, “Some say that resigning from posts, then forcing an election, making selection and collection is a sacrifice. The people of Telangana have seen your election, selection and collection many times from 2001 to 2014.”
“Those who (in the past) did not even have rubber slippers, now (own) TVs, newspapers, farmhouses, bungalows, palaces in Jubilee Hills and farms spread over hundreds of acres in Gajwel. If you have made sacrifices, how did you get assets worth thousands of crores, unlike Konda Laxman Bapuji?” he asked.
Telangana society should know the difference between “your” (BRS) sacrifice and Bapuji’s sacrifice. They have been observing who got wealth by forcing by-elections and making “selections and collections”“, he claimed and said, “So the word sacrifice does not suit you.”
Bapuji had given up a space in front of the party office to BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao when the latter formed the TRS in 2001, Reddy said.
He said he had sought the establishment of IIHT in Telangana after becoming chief minister and that minister Piyush Goyal had approved the institute to the state without any political consideration.
The state government has decided to provide two sarees each to the 63 lakh members of women’s self-help groups (SHGs). This would ensure that weavers in the state get employment to make 1.30 crore sarees, he said.
Regarding the request of some weavers’ representatives for loan waiver, the CM said the government would consider their request if the total amount reaches Rs 30 crore.
