- HighPoint Rocket 7604A RAID card is half of the previous iteration
- Supplies almost 60 Gbps using four Gen5 SSDs without power cable
- First assessment shows that it offers strong performance on both Intel and AMD platforms
The HighPoint Rocket 7604A is a PCIE Gen5 RAID card that focuses on professionals who need extreme sequential transit in compact workstations.
While it builds on the inheritance of the larger one Rocket 1608a Model, it succeeds in reducing the form factor by almost half while maintaining similar performance.
The 7604A fits in a configuration with a single lock, half a length and is fully driven by the PCIe bus, without external current.
Shades earlier models for holding records
Tweak Recently assessed the map and describes it as “a masterpiece of Engineering” that delivers 59.8 GB/s sequential transit with the help of only four M.2 Gen5 SSDs.
This performance even overshadows its own previous previous record models of the company. It achieves this with a Broadcom PEX89048A RAID controller and four gene5 x4 m.2 slots.
Both tests tested Intel And AMD Platforms. Intel Systems had the lead in benchmarks such as Aamvil and Blackmagic, while AMD took the lead in certain file transfer scenarios.
Combined with four Samsung 9100 Pro Drives (Tweak Note that the discs must be bald to fit the map), the Rocket 7604A achieved nearly 60 GB/s Sequential transit in Kristaldiskmark. “Better than every AIC that we have ever encountered,” noted the Senior Hardware editor of the site, Jon Coulter.
On Atto it yielded up to 54 GB/s, more than twice the transit that was achieved with the 1608A using eight crucial T705 discs.
Tweak Also reported that the 7604A broke several laboratory records and 93,000 points scored in the Benchmark of Anvil, and all earlier AICs were exceeded.
Users can configure software -which supports RAID 0 and RAID 1, or use Highpoint’s own configuration utility to unlock additional options such as RAID 10. The map also supports PCIE Gen4 SSDs, although the transit is reduced when used in that mode.
For $ 999, the Rocket 7604A is less expensive than its predecessor and many competitive solutions. It is clearly not made for casual users, but for anyone who needs peak transit in a limited space, this card certainly delivers.
Tweak has awarded it 98% (dropping a few points for performance and value, but the scoring of the maximum for quality and functions) and called the choice of IT editor.
