NEW DELHI: Little cupboard approved on Wednesday’Mission Mausam‘ with an outlay of Rs 2,000 crore over two years to create a more robust forecasting system for extreme weather events and address the impact of climate change. This will also be used for issuing air pollution alerts across the country.
Key elements of the mission include the deployment of next-generation radars and satellite systems with advanced sensors and high-performance supercomputers, the development of improved Earth system models, and a GIS-based automated decision support system for real-time data dissemination.
“By integrating advanced observation systems, high-performance computing and cutting-edge technologies, Mission Mausam will set a new standard in high-precision weather forecasting,” a government statement said.
The move will also contribute to better urban planning, environmental monitoring and the operation of shipping, road and rail transport.
