DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand government has launched a Rs 3.6 crore project aimed at reviving Jadung, a village in Uttarkashi District of the Garhwal Himalayas, which has remained deserted since the 1962 war between India and China. The initiative focuses on promotion astro-tourism, drawAnd host families to stimulate local tourism.
As part of the project, the tourism department is developing view points in Hawabend near Gartang Gali (a historic wooden step bridge built over 150 years ago), with an outlay of Rs 1.4 crore. Another view point is being built in Sri Kantha, with an investment of Rs 1.5 crore, officials said. Six houses will be transformed into homestays, using local architecture and materials.
