Russell Brand to appear in court for the charges of rape and sexual violence

The comedian and actor Russell Brand were planned on Friday to appear before a London court on several charges of sexual violence, including two counts of rape.

His appearance at Westminster Magistrates Court will be the first, largely procedural, step in what will probably be a long criminal procedure. It comes a month later British prosecutors accused Mr. Fire With one count of rape, one of oral rape, two counts of sexual violence and another indecent attack.

Last month, public prosecutors said in a press release that the charges with regard to “non -recess offenses reported between 1999 and 2005, in which four women were involved.”

Mr. Brand has denied all charges. In a video posted on his social media accounts in April, Mr. Brand said that he “had never participated in non -consensual activities” and that he looked forward to defending himself in court.

In Great -Britain, the first hearing in a criminal proceedings is “largely administrative,” said Stuart Nolan of the Law Society, an organization that represents British lawyers. On Friday, Mr Nolan said, the judge would simply refer the case to a higher court, called a Kroonhof, which deals with more serious violations.

Mr. Brand would also be asked to confirm his name, address and date of birth, but would not introduce a plea, Mr Nolan added.

A plea would take place in about a month, Mr Nolan said, but the actual process can only start “in a year of today”, due to a backlog in the judicial system of Great Britain.

Mr. Brand became a star in Great Britain in the early 2000s with hit stand-up shows and performances such as TV and radio presenter. Later, after the period that falls under the indictment, he also achieved fame in the United States, when he played in films such as “Forgeting Sarah Marshall” (2008) and “Get him to the Griek (2010). He was briefly married to the Popster Katy Perry.

In recent years, Mr. Brand better known for conspiracy-oriented YouTube videos. Almost seven million users subscribe to his channel, where Mr. Brand Clips has placed about politics and news events such as the war in Ukraine.

According to British law, news stores cannot identify anyone who makes accusations of sexual violence, unless they choose to refrain from their right to anonymity. After the charges have been filed, strict rules also prevent the report of all information that a jury could harm during the process.
