Russian woman found dead, probably poisoned by gases in Uttarakhand's hot spring
DEHRADUN: A 45-year-old Russian woman was found dead in a hot spring in Gangnani, about 45 km from Uttarkashi town, on Sunday. Police suspect her death was caused by poisoning from harmful natural gases emitted from the source.
The woman has been identified as Tatjana Lubiana. She had come to Uttarkashi with two friends: a man from Lithuania and a woman from Russia. Sub-inspector Nikhil Dev Choudhary, in-charge of Bhatwari police checkpost, said CCTV footage showed Tatiana going to the well alone around 6 pm. Saturday. Locals found her body on Sunday morning, he said. The initial examination showed that there were no injuries on her body and that she was not addicted to drugs.
Police spoke to locals who warned that visitors should not spend more than 15-20 minutes in the spring due to underground gas emissions. “People often become unconscious if they don’t follow the instructions,” says Choudhary. It is suspected that Tatiana ignored the advice and died from the harmful gases. Her friends said they would cremate her in Uttarkashi,” the sub-inspector added.
