Sadhguru condemns arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh | India News – Times of India
Speaking to X, Sadhguru called out Bangladesh’s shift from a democratic to a theocratic and autocratic system.
“It is shameful to see a democratic nation disintegrate and become theocratic and autocratic. It is the responsibility of every citizen to understand the value of an open democracy. Persecution based on religion or weakness of demography is not the way to build democratic nations. Unfortunately, our neighboring country has drifted away from democratic principles,” he said.
“It should be the responsibility of every citizen of Bangladesh to rebuild a democratic nation in which all citizens will have the necessary rights and ability to fulfill their lives according to their demands and beliefs,” he added.
Meanwhile, India reacted to the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das and expressed serious concerns over the treatment of minorities in Bangladesh.
“We have noted with great concern the arrest and denial of bail to Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das, who is also the spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote. This incident follows multiple attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh. There have been several documented cases of arson and looting of homes and businesses of minorities, as well as theft, vandalism and desecration of deities and temples,” the MEA said in a statement. statement. “
It is unfortunate that while the perpetrators of these incidents remain at large, charges must be filed against a religious leader who is raising legitimate demands through peaceful gatherings,” he added.
The ministry also highlighted concerns over attacks on Hindus protesting the religious leader’s arrest.
Bangladeshi authorities arrested Das near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday. Police Detective spokesman Rezaul Karim confirmed Das’s detention at the request of regular police, although specific charges were not disclosed.
According to news portal Bdnews24, Sanatani Jagran Jote’s main organizer Gaurang Das Brahmachari reported that Das was planning to travel from Dhaka to Chattogram by air.
