Sam Worthington claps back at Channel Seven reporter over Lara Bingle’s awkward comment
Sam Worthington’s night out with wife Lara Worthington at the 2024 GQ Man of the Year Awards got off to a bumpy start when a red carpet interview with the couple went horribly wrong on live TV.
On Wednesday night, Channel Seven reporter Sally Bowery introduced Sam’s 37-year-old wife to viewers of the Sydney event under her maiden name Lara Bingle – and the balloon went down like a lead balloon.
“Her name is Lara Worthington,” the 48-year-old Avatar star clapped back.
“It’s only been ten years,” a clearly irritated Sam quickly added.
Bowery quickly apologized for her disastrous mistake.
“Those were my panties,” she said.

Late in the evening, the Avatar star was crowned GQ’s Man of the Year.
The couple arrived Down Under with their young family on Tuesday.
The model arrived at Sydney Airport on Tuesday with her husband, Sam Worthington, and their three young sons, Racer, eight, River, four, and Rocket, nine.
The infamously private couple welcomed their son River under a shroud of secrecy, with estimates that his birth took place sometime between March and June in 2020.
Their eldest sons were born in 2015 and 2016.
When it comes to fatherhood, Sam tells Stellar magazine that he doesn’t always get it right, but he does his best.
‘I’ve tried to deal with it [fame] carefully. It’s hard; There is no book that tells you how to do it. There are no rules,” he told the publication.

‘I made a few mistakes. And that’s okay. You grow from that’.
Sam also emphasized that it is important to him that his sons live a normal life full of sports and cartoons, just like any other child, away from the trappings of fame.
‘Now that I have children, it’s more a matter of protecting my children from it [attention]’ he said at the time.
“Right now, my kids don’t care what their dad does. They don’t look at my work in a spectacular way.
“They just want me to take them to soccer practice and hang out and watch Paw Patrol. You do your best to achieve this balance, and that’s all you can do.”
Lara also told The Daily Telegraph that the couple, who met in 2013, are enjoying growing old together.
“As a family unit, we are all very close. We only have each other. Sam and I make a good team,” she said.
Lara and Sam started dating in 2013 and secretly married in 2014
