Samsung executive calls India ‘one of the largest’ global markets

Samsung Electronics on Tuesday announced the visit of a company official to its Noida plant, praising its India-based research and development (R&D) teams. The facility, located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, primarily produces consumer electronics products including smartphones, tablets and refrigerators. According to the company, this is the official’s second trip to India in 2024, signaling the growing importance of the country to the South Korean tech conglomerate.

Samsung Official Visit to Noida Factory

In a newsroom afterSamsung Electronics announced that JH Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division, visited Samsung’s factory in Noida, which the company describes as the world’s largest mobile manufacturing facility.

After the visit, the official noted, “India is one of the largest and fastest growing markets in the world and offers a huge opportunity for Samsung. We were one of the first companies to invest in India and I am happy that the Noida plant has grown into one of our largest facilities, manufacturing not just for India but for the world.”

Samsung’s Noida plant was first set up in 1996, becoming one of the first global manufacturing facilities to be established in the country. The plant began producing smartphones in 2017. The plant’s capacity was expanded in 2018 to a production limit of 120 million smartphones per year, following an investment of Rs. 4,916 crore by the South Korean company. It is spread across 129,000 square meters. In January, TM Roh, President and Head of the Mobile Experience Business at Samsung Electronics, had announced that the facility will start producing laptop models that will be sold in the Indian market later this year.

Besides the Noida plant, Samsung also has another plant in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. During his visit, the Samsung vice chairman also praised the R&D being done by the India-based teams. “I am proud that many young, enterprising engineers who are playing a significant role in the development of AI are working in our R&D centres in India,” the official said.

Samsung says it is committed to the “Make in India” initiative. It has a total of three R&D centres in India, two of which are located in Noida and one in Bengaluru.
