Samsung Galaxy Unpacked July live blog – Galaxy Ring, Fold 6, Flip 6, Watch 7 and more
Refresh
Just take a look at the Galaxy Z Fold 6 renders below, which are apparently based on insider information, and you’ll see a phone that looks almost identical to its predecessor.
Normally I’d say that’s not a bad thing, since I like the design of the current Fold. But even with stiffer competition from the Google Pixel Fold and OnePlus Open, I still think Samsung could use some design tweaks on its flagship foldable phone… try saying that quickly, after a few beers.
As the ‘head’ of TechRadar’s Mobile Computing division, which means smartphones and tablets, you’d think I’d be excited about the Galaxy Z Fold 6. After all, I have a Fold 4 and Fold 3 within my grasp, and I quite like the literal flexibility of the phones.
But I am not.
I’m expecting a chip upgrade for the next-gen Fold, but not much more given the rumors. Samsung will surely equip the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with all the AI chops it packed into the Galaxy S24 series, but I haven’t heard much in the way of unique features to make the Fold 6’s larger screen sing with smarts. And that’s a shame, so far at least, because I’ve written about how I hope Samsung leans on AI to make the Galaxy Z Fold 6 special.
Of course, all of these devices currently exist in the mist of rumors, leaks, and speculation. But I’ve been writing about Samsung stuff for years, so I’m pretty confident that we’ll see pretty much most of those aforementioned devices.
I haven’t heard much about the Galaxy Watch Ultra yet, but a recent major leak has ensured that the rumors no longer languish in the background.
Okay, let’s get started. First of all, here’s what I think you can expect:
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: Judging from the rumors so far, you can expect a minor upgrade.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Expect a fair number of changes, most notably an improved camera system.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 7: An upgrade on the Galaxy Watch 6, so more wellness features, better specs and perhaps even a new design.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra rumors: basically Samsung’s response to the Apple Watch Ultra.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro 3 and Galaxy Buds 3: new wireless earbuds from Samsung that follow hot on the heels of the AirPods range.
Good morning. Managing Editor of Mobile Computing Roland Moore-Colyer is here to take you through the run-up to what I’m calling the “summer” Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. Expect to hear about quite a few products today.
And AI… always AI.
