Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 listed on Geekbench; could get a 12GB RAM variant
The rumor mill has been seeing a lot of new information surrounding Samsung’s foldable Galaxy Z Fold 6 lately. The book-shaped foldable phone is expected to launch during an upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, which is said to be taking place in Paris this year. While details surrounding the event have yet to be officially announced, a new leak has now surfaced suggesting the date of the event. Meanwhile, more details about the Galaxy Z Flip 6 have surfaced online, along with a leaked benchmark that hints at a brand new variant of the clamshell foldable.
While there have been plenty of rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (and, to some extent, the Ultra/Slim) lately, we’ve seen fewer details about the upcoming, smaller, clamshell-style foldable Galaxy Z Flip 6.
According to a Geekbench List Rumored to be coming to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, there could be a new 12GB RAM variant. The listing revealed the scores that the device achieved and also gave more details about the processor and RAM. The benchmark results show a maximum (best of 3) score of 2,321 and 7,233 in Geekbench’s single- and multi-score tests, which is a notable increase from the scores of 1,998 and 5,176 that we achieved in our independent tests for the 8GB RAM variant of the Galaxy Z Flip 5.
This could also be due to Samsung’s custom variant of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the Galaxy, which offers a slight performance boost over the stock processor. Samsung has consistently stuck to 8GB of RAM across all variants of its clamshell foldable device in the past few years, so a 12GB RAM variant (as shown in the benchmark listing) should theoretically improve its multitasking performance.
Another leak through Smart Price has teased a slew of details about the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6. While an earlier leak from the same source hinted at minimal design changes, this year’s leak is said to feature plenty of upgrades under the hood.
Going by the leaked information, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 appears to sport the same 6.7-inch internal display as the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2,640 x 1,080 pixels. The phone’s cover display also appears to be identical to last year’s model at 3.4-inches and a resolution of 720 x 748 pixels.
The bigger upgrade this year will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor, which will offer a max clock speed of 3.9GHz. The phone is expected to come in the same 256GB and 512GB storage options as last year.
The rear camera is said to feature a 50-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, which will be an upgrade from the current 12-megapixel camera on the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The ultra-wide camera seems to be the same as before with a 12-megapixel sensor and the same goes for the 10-megapixel front-facing camera too, which is reported to lack autofocus. Connectivity options also seem to be similar to the previous model.
As for the dimensions, the new Galaxy Z Flip 6 is said to come in at 6.9mm thick when open and 14.9mm when folded, which if true would put it on par with its predecessor. The phone is also said to weigh 187 grams, same as the Galaxy Z Flip 5.
However, the leaked images also suggest that this year’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 could get a larger 4,000mAh battery, which the paper claims should last up to 19 hours of mixed Wi-Fi and LTE usage. Charging speeds are said to remain the same as before, limited to 25W.
In other news, tipster Evan Blass has now also confirmed that the Galaxy Unpacked launch, even for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, will take place on July 10. While the same date was previously leaked, Blass shared a countdown gif of the launch event in a post that has since been removed due to copyright infringement. We expect Samsung to officially announce the next Galaxy Unpacked dates soon.
