Samsung unveils new BioActive sensor with this handy health feature
Samsung Galaxy Unpacked is taking place on Wednesday, and the company’s next-generation Galaxy Watch series is expected to be unveiled at the event. With less than a day to go before Samsung launches new wearables, it has given users a sneak peek at its next-generation BioActive sensor that is expected to arrive on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. The updated sensor is said to enable advanced predictive and preventive wellness features and offer accurate health measurements. Samsung also says it has added more LEDs and photodiodes to the sensor.
In a blog postSamsung has shared details about the next-generation BioActive sensor that will be coming to the upcoming Galaxy Watch series. The new sensor has a fresh design, and Samsung says it has optimized the sensor placements to deliver accurate readings. It features blue, yellow, violet and ultraviolet LEDs, in addition to the standard green and red LEDs.
Samsung says the new LEDs improve the accuracy of its updated BioActive sensor while measuring health metrics such as heart rate, sleep quality, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels and stress levels. The company claims its heart rate reading during intense workouts is 30 percent more accurate than the sensor on its current smartwatches.
One of the new features enabled by the BioActive sensor is the “advanced glycation end products (AGEs) index.” Samsung describes the AGEs index as an indicator of metabolic health and biological aging that is heavily influenced by overall lifestyle and dietary habits. This index provides a window into the wearer’s biological age to help them make decisions about their wellness journey and work toward a healthier future.
Samsung’s report reveals that the AGEs Index may roll out after the launch of new wearables during the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10.
