Samsung’s One UI 6.1. 1 with extra Galaxy AI is now rolling out to older phones – here’s what it does
When the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 were officially unveiled in July, they arrived with a new One UI 6.1. 1 update that brought a fresh set of Galaxy AI features. Now, the update is rolling out to Samsung’s other flagship phones.
The rollout was first noticed by SamMobilewhich came in response to user reports that the One UI 6.1. 1 update would be arriving on the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra devices in Samsung’s home country of South Korea.
Samsung then helpfully confirmed the news that it had indeed begun rolling out One UI 6.1. 1 – not just to its Galaxy S24 phones, but also to the Galaxy S23 series, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, and the Galaxy Tab S9 tablets. North America and Europe will get the update starting September 9.
Previous reports have suggested that older devices from 2022 could also be eligible for One UI 6.1. 1, but Samsung has yet to provide specifics on this, nor which of the new Galaxy AI features will be supported on the older hardware.
What is included
Most of the improvements coming with One UI 6.1. 1 focus on Galaxy AI features, including the Sketch to Image tool that creates AI art from your scribbles. You can also create AI images from your own photos via Portrait Studio.
The new update also gives you access to real-time interpretation across multiple calling apps, including Google Meet and WhatsApp. Continuing with the translation theme, the same capability is available for live spoken audio.
Within the Samsung Notes app, spoken audio can be recorded and transcribed simultaneously, while another part of the update lets you summarize and translate PDF files. Another neat trick: backgrounds that change depending on the time of day and the weather.
It’s worth installing it if you have a compatible phone, and you can check if an update is available via this link. Software update in the Settings menu. Note that the update will still show as One UI 6.1 unless you’re using one of Samsung’s foldable phones.
