Schools up to class 12 to remain closed in Goa tomorrow | India News – Times of India


PANAJI: In view of the rainfall warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Chief Minister of Goa has Pramod Sawant announced on Sunday that all schools, from kindergarten through 12th grade, will remain closed on Monday.
The Prime Minister said that this measure only applies to schools as all government offices and other services will function according to their own schedule.
He further stated that the 80 people who were stranded at the waterfall, saved by the team of emergency services civil servants.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told ANI, “The Director of Education has been asked to issue a circular stating that there will be a holidays on monday as a red alert has been declared and as a result, all schools in Goa from nursery to grade 12 will remain closed tomorrow.”
He further informed, “All roads are flooded and there is water everywhere. That is why we have declared a one-day holiday. But it is not a government holiday, government offices and everything else remains open. My request to all people is that there is heavy rainfall in all places in Goa and therefore one should not step out of the house but only in case of emergency… Eighty people who were stranded near the waterfall have been rescued…”
According to an IMD press release: “Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Konkan and Goa; heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in eastern Uttar Pradesh, coastal Karnataka; heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places in Uttarakhand; heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in western Uttar Pradesh, western Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Maharashtra, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat region; heavy rainfall at isolated places in Punjab, Haryana, eastern Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, western Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Assam and Meghalaya, Telangana, Kerala and Mahe, interior Karnataka and coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.”
