Secret Party Island that inspired Stormzy, Rihanna, the woman in black film and Olly Murs’ wedding could be yours (if you have a reserve £ 25 million!)

A remote Essex island where Stormzy wrote an album, Olly Murs Dish and the woman in black was filmed, went on the market for £ 25 million.

Osea Island in the Blackwater Estuary, which is owned by music producer Nigel Frieda, has 90 bedrooms and 61 bathrooms over a total of 38 homes.

The 380-hectare private estate, which has an old Roman raised road and is cut off by flood, was a secret navy base during the First World War.

The island, which also has evidence of the Viking and Norman ages, has its own landing tour and was previously rented by the singer Rihanna.

Rapper Stormzy withdrew to Osea with a series of colleague musicians and producers to write his third album this, this is what I mean, that came true in November 2022.

He later told it BBC: ‘Once you are on the island, you were actually stuck there and we made a large part of the album there. It was a very surrealistic, spiritual experience.

‘If people talk about their spiritual experiences, it is just gone with the fairies, but for everyone who was there, we bathed together, we would play football together, we would laugh, we would talk.

“And these were some of the best musicians in the world, and they are some of the best producers in the world and some of the best artists in the world.”

Other artists who have been recorded there are Jessie J and Tinnie Tempah, while Amy Winehouse attended a rehabilitation clinic at Osea in 2008.

Singer Olly Murs, Van Witham in Essex, married his fiancée Amelia tank in a three-day festival-style event on the island in July 2023.

Osea is also used a film location for both the TV adjustment from 1989 and the 2012 film version of The Woman in Black.

The 2000 crime film Essex Boys was recorded there, just like the 2020 mini series on the third day, with Jude Law, Naomie Harris and Emily Watson.

Broker Simon Fielding van Fine and land told BBC News: ‘We already have several bids on it and some of them are more than the pipe price.

‘We see it going to operators that will use it in a similar way if it is used now – as a location, an event room or high -end rental facility.

“The proximity of London is an important sales argument and it is beautiful.”

The company said that Osea also offered ‘further development potential and an established hospitality and entertainment company’.

Osea has evidence with regard to the Viking, Norman and Roman eras – and was included in the Domesday book in 1066 as ‘Uvesia’.

The island was purchased in 1903 by social reformer Frederick Charrington, part of the Charrington Brewing -Dynasty.

He created one of the world’s first temperature associations on Osea, where alcoholics and people with other addictions could withdraw for free help in exchange for working on the island.

Palm trees and fuchsias were planted, a large decorative sealing pond was built and wallabies were even imported from Australia.

In 1917 the Admiralty demanded the island as a top secret navy called SS Osea, with 1,000 sailors who became a base for a base for motor boats.

During the Second World War, the British army used the island and was affected by a V2 rocket that was meant to hit London.

Cambridge University took over the ownership of Osea after the war and used it as a location of special scientific interest because of ecology, rare plants, birds and marine life.

In more recent decades, the island has become a celebrity enclave and called the ‘English Necker Island’, after the Caribbean retreat of Sir Richard Branson.

Osea was bought in 2004 by Nigel Frieda, who produced music for the Rolling Stones and launched the Sugababes.

The company was brought to court and admitted that he had a non -registered service and the judge said that the standards ‘a third world country would really be ashamed’.

Since then, the island has become remarkable for organizing a series of high -profile music artists who have taken the most out of his discreet setting.

The island now has 38 homes, from the Edwardian Manor House to Charreston House, which offers a range of luxury apartments converted from a former orphanage.
