Chilling evidence has emerged of the brutal execution of two Ukrainian prisoners of war held by Vladimir Putin’s forces.

Shocking drone footage clearly shows horrific war crimes committed by a Russian regiment known for past atrocities.

Two surrendering Ukrainian prisoners of war sitting in a trench are killed by a hail of nine shots fired by Putin’s soldiers near Robotyne in Ukraine’s Zaporizhia region.

The cold-blooded murders are believed to have taken place last month, but footage has only now emerged.

The Zaporizhzhya Prosecutor’s Office in Ukraine has opened a criminal investigation into violations of the rules of war and premeditated murder by invading Russian troops.

The shooting is being investigated by the Ukrainian security service SBU.

The Russian soldiers are believed to be from the 70th Motorized Rifle Regiment, which is already under investigation for previous gruesome killings of prisoners of war.

“The killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and may be considered a serious international crime,” said a Ukrainian report based on the shocking footage.

Ukraine previously claimed that Russian forces were ordered by their commanders to massacre captured Russian troops.

Last month, the severed head of a surrendering Ukrainian prisoner of war was placed on the hood of a captured Kozak-2 armored vehicle.

Andriy Kostin, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, said at the time: “This is terrible barbarism that has no place in the 21st century.

‘This once again confirms that the war crimes of the aggressor are not isolated cases, but part of the planned policy of the Russian regime.

These criminal orders were issued by the battalion and company commanders of the occupying forces.

We will not let these crimes go unpunished.

“I call on the entire civilized world to isolate and punish the terrorist country.”

Last month it also became known that previous massacres of prisoners of war had been carried out by the 70th Motorized Rifle Regiment – military unit 71718 – of the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 58th Army of the Southern District of the Russian Armed Forces, according to the GUR military intelligence service.

Their permanent base is in the Russian region of Chechnya and is led by Putin’s close ally Ramzan Kadyrov.

Ukraine’s military intelligence service GUR has revealed the identities of several soldiers believed to have been involved in the execution of captured soldiers.

The GUR reported at the time: The GUR statement said: ‘These Russian war criminals may also be involved in the murder of additional Ukrainian prisoners of war later in May 2024.

‘This is evident in particular from radio recordings of a conversation between the occupiers and the 70th Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces, in which one of the commanders of the Russian assault company ordered his subordinates to shoot Ukrainian soldiers.’
