How Married At First Sight New Zealand star Andrew Jury spent his final days before his tragic death at the age of 33 can now be revealed.
The builder, who was one of the original grooms in the first season of the reality TV giant’s New Zealand format, was jailed just hours before his death last Thursday, the release said. New Zealand herald.
Jury’s father Roy told the publication that his son was in custody at the Mt Eden Corrections Facility at the time and died just hours before a scheduled court appearance.
The Herald reported that the jury at the time was “dealing with active charges including assault with intent to injure, malicious damage and possession of an offensive weapon.”
They also reported that Roy Jury had “concerns about his son’s mental state” prior to the hearing and that he had “struggled” in jail following his April 2 arrest.
“It should have been a warning sign that Andy stopped communicating with his family and friends.”
Mt Eden Prison Director Dion Paki confirmed on the morning of June 27 that Jury had died despite the efforts of medical and emergency personnel to save him.
Andrew was just 26 years old when he made his MAFS appearance in 2017.

His co-stars Brett and Angel Renall and Benjamin Blackwell announced the reality star’s shocking death in a joint statement last weekend.
“It is with heavy hearts that we have gathered to acknowledge the passing of Andrew Jury,” it read.
“We have had the immense pleasure of filming and participating in a show that has bonded us forever.
“Despite his challenges, Andrew was always friendly and the life of the party during our experience together. He really valued his time on the show.”
After his appearance on MAFS, Andrew kept a low profile and rarely shared details about his life on his Instagram page.
His last photo was posted to his grid on May 28, 2023, on the occasion of his 32nd birthday.

This comes after Warner Bros. Discovery, which broadcasts MAFS in New Zealand, announced that they have put in place welfare protocols as concerns grow about the wellbeing of all MAFS stars.
“WBD takes its duty of care very seriously and has established protocols regarding the well-being of cast and crew,” a company spokesperson said.
“All MAFS NZ employees have access to mental health professionals throughout the process, including pre-screening, during production and post-broadcast.”

When Brett, Angel Renall and Benjamin Blackwell announced Jury’s passing last weekend, they extended their condolences to his family.
“Our entire cast would like to extend our deepest condolences and love to his family at this time – Ben, Angel, Brett, Vicky, Haydn, Lacey, Claire, Dom, Aaron, Luke, Belinda,” they wrote in their statement.
