Shopper calls ASDA ‘the new Zara’ with gorgeous coats and leopard print clothing
SHOPPERS are rushing to ASDA to get their hands on the new autumn/winter collection.
Fashionistas are raving about the supermarket’s new clothing line that has just launched, with some saying they are “trying to be the next Zara.”
Victoria chic went bargain hunting in the clothing department of ASDA George and became “obsessed” with a number of items.
She shared a video of herself shopping at her local store and finding some fashionable items that she believes are counterfeit Zara clothing.
Victoria says: “Oh my God, Asda’s clothes, they’ve got a lot better.”
First up she found a warm cream aviator jacket with contrasting panels for £45, which has two side pockets and a buckle fastening at the side.
Speaking about the coat, Victoria says: “Look at this coat, like I’m sorry, Zara who? It’s so thick too.”
And with leopard print set to be totally in season for autumn 2024, ASDA’s George proves they’re right on trend with a few wardrobe staples.
They sell a leopard print shirt, which Victoria is “obsessed with”, for £16, a brown leopard print fluffy button-up cardigan for £20 and a pair of loose leopard print trousers for £16.
And if that wasn’t enough, the budget supermarket is also selling fluffy coats for £40.
And also the sweaters “that everyone wants”, for £16.
Victoria’s video has been viewed over 217,000 times and many people took to the comments to share their thoughts.
One customer praised the popular supermarket for their clothing, writing: “I have always loved Asda clothes and the quality is much better than the real clothes shops.”
Another added: “Very beautiful and gorgeous.”
A third responded enthusiastically: “This jacket is beautiful.”
While someone else said, “I have that vest.”
How Asda upped its game
By Fabulous’ Fashion Director Tracey Lea Sayer
Take a stroll through the aisles of Asda and you’ll notice just how good the George at Asda clothing line is at the moment.
Add to that their recent collaboration with fashion designer Roksanda, celebrating the 40th anniversary of London Fashion Week, which featured the designer’s signature colour-blocking dresses, oversized Borg fleeces and bold striped co-ords, and it’s not hard to see why the brand is so popular!
All proceeds from the collection will go to The British Fashion Council to promote young designers. A win-win situation!
Quality also seems to be returning to the clothing range.
‘Style Stories’ featuring fashion influencer Erica Davies is a capsule collection of autumn must-haves that are not only stylish but also incredibly affordable, starting from £7.
Beautiful quilted jackets, slogan sweatshirts and a chocolate-coloured faux sheepskin pilot jacket are among my favourites.
In addition, George was recently crowned Best Childrenswear Brand at Asda in our Fabulous Fashion Awards, voted for by Fabulous readers.
With ‘Click to buy’ you can view the entire range online or simply browse while doing your weekly shopping.
Don’t mention it!
But other fashion lovers also praised Tesco, because they had something similar, but cheaper.
Someone wrote: “Tesco have the same coat for £5 cheaper to start with.”
When another customer told him about buying a similar jacket from Tesco, he said: “Yes, I bought it when it was 25% off, so even better. And I’m sure the discount will start again this week.”
Is supermarket fashion the new high street?
DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:
Supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, when you pop in to do your weekly shop, you can also pick up a selection of wallet-friendly, stylish items for the whole family.
Tesco has just announced a 0.7 percent rise in the quarter thanks to ‘strong growth in clothing’ and M&S has earned the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street.
Asda’s George clothing line earned the supermarket £1.5m in 2023, 80 per cent of clothes at Sainsbury’s were sold at full price rather than discounted, and sales of Nutmeg at Morrisons have also risen by 2 per cent over the past year.
How is it that supermarket fashion is so successful?
The clothing is not only affordable but also of good quality, and much of the clothing is part of programs such as the Better Cotton Initiative.
They often stick to classic pieces that they know will last for years.
And because they buy so much stock, they can deliver quickly and the volumes are cheaper.
